What is an Emulsifier Used For?

An emulsifier is the key product for making homemade creams with our vegetable and essential oils. It is used to combine the aqueous and fatty or oily parts of a cosmetic preparation into a homogeneous mixture. This emulsifier is derived from natural sugars and fats, obtained through the esterification of sucrose and natural vegetable fatty acids. Its structure consists of a lipophilic part and a hydrophilic part, effectively binding water and oil consistently.

How to Use the Emulsifier for Creams?

It can be used in concentrations of 2–5% as the primary emulsifier, or 0.5–1% as a co-emulsifier. For cold processes, it works well in the oil phase; in heated processes, it is typically dissolved in the aqueous phase at 54–70ºC.

COLD PROCESS: Dissolve the emulsifier in the oil phase and mix well to avoid lumps. Add the aqueous phase to the oil phase and mix thoroughly for a few minutes until the emulsion is well blended.

LOW TEMPERATURE: Dissolve the emulsifier in the oil phase, ensuring no lumps remain. Heat both phases separately to a low temperature (40ºC). Pour the aqueous phase into the oil phase and mix well until a homogeneous emulsion is achieved.

HEATED PROCESS: Dissolve the emulsifier in the oil phase and mix thoroughly. Heat both phases separately to 70ºC. Add the oil phase to the aqueous phase and mix well until a stable emulsion is formed.

What Are Its Properties?

Sucrose stearate (sucrose stearate) is a 100% plant-based product that can be used to create cosmetics suitable for all skin types, especially dry or sensitive skin. It is frequently used in facial care or delicate skin cosmetics. It has low viscosity, is emollient, and conditions the skin. Its optimal pH ranges between 5 and 8. The only notable incompatibility is its sensitivity to electrolytes. It is also popularly known as Sucremul.
