What is an essential oil
An essential oil is the concentrated aromatic extract of a plant, usually obtained by steam distillation of its flowers, leaves, bark or roots. It often takes dozens of kilos of plant material to produce a single litre of oil, which is why it is so potent and why you only ever need a few drops.
