Thyme Essential Oil (Thymol chemotype) 🌿

Thymol thyme essential oil (Thymus vulgaris CT thymol) is one of the most potent in aromatherapy, known for its exceptional antimicrobial properties, especially against resistant bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Its main compound, thymol, is a powerful disinfectant and immune booster. The aroma is strong, herbal, and slightly medicinal.
⚠️ Caution: Dermocaustic and mucolytic. Must be well diluted for topical use. Avoid in young children, during pregnancy, on sensitive skin or mucous membranes. Do not ingest without professional guidance. Limit diffuser use to 10 minutes with proper ventilation.
Common uses and recipes
1. Respiratory infections 🌬️
Topical (chest or back)
- 1 drop thyme EO
- 4 drops calophyllum or hazelnut carrier oil
Massage twice a day for 5 days.
Diffuser
- 1 drop thyme EO
- 2 drops ravintsara
- 2 drops eucalyptus radiata
Diffuse for 5–10 minutes, up to 3 times daily in ventilated areas.
2. Urinary or gynecological infections
Sitz bath or compress 🛁
- 2 drops thyme EO
- 1 drop tea tree EO
- Mix in 1 tbsp milk or apple cider vinegar and add to 5 L warm water
Sit for 10 minutes.
3. Fungal infections (skin or nails)
- 1 drop thyme EO
- 1 drop palmarosa EO
- 2 ml calendula oil
Apply daily with a cotton swab for up to 10 days.
4. Physical or mental fatigue
- 1 drop thyme EO
- 1 drop peppermint EO
- 1 drop bay laurel EO
Dilute in 5 ml jojoba oil. Apply to wrists, soles, or inhale directly.
5. Natural home disinfectant 🧼
Antiseptic spray
- 10 drops thyme EO
- 10 drops lemon EO
- 10 drops lavender EO
- 50 ml distilled water + 50 ml 70% alcohol
Shake well before each use.
